Granular materials are conveniently carried in hoppers, which can be quickly unloaded into silos. Coal can also be transported in hoppers (no example in the present collections), as can track ballast. Bulk powders are still carried in Scotland; Alumina to Fort William from Lynemouth and cements from Oxwellmains to various terminals.
