40 ton Bogie Trolley Wagon, Caledonian Railway

Built 1896, Diagram 41.
On loan from the National Railway Museum, York.

"Trolley" wagons have a lowered central well, to carry very large items - steam boilers, propellers for ships, and so on. This wagon is massively constructed with double (internal and external) axleboxes of design similar to the company’s contemporary output of steam locomotives.
