In March 1959, to compete with road transport, 'Condor' express container overnight freight trains were introduced between Glasgow Gushetfaulds and London Hendon, hauled by the latest diesel locomotives (Metropolitan Vickers CoBos). These trains were the forerunners of Freightliner services. The name 'Condor' was derived from 'Container Door to Door', and the service operated via Leicester, Sheffield, Leeds and Carlisle.
The London and Glasgow depots were supplied with the latest lifting equipment for speedy loading and unloading. The service was heavily promoted.
This wagon was designated for preservation by the Railway Heritage Committee, who directed it to SRPS at Bo'ness.
