North British Railway Third Class Corridor compartment coach (Sc3565E)

SRPS Core Collection. Acquired 1979 with grant support from the National Fund for Acquisitions.
Used as a office in the Steam Locomotive Workshop.
Built 1921, NBR Cowlairs Works, Glasgow. Diagram 81S.

From the 1880s, carriages started to be built with corridors and gangways so that passengers could move around within the train to reach lavatories and restaurant cars, and to allow the guard to check tickets. This coach shows these trends.

Little remains of the original interior.
