This is one of many 6½ ton and 10 ton hand cranes built for the Ministry of Supply to an LMSR specification for war use.

The crane was used extensively during the early days of constructing the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. However it was involved in an accident at Birkhill Station in the 1980s after which it had to be partially dismantled for recovery. It has not subsequently been rebuilt.

The runner wagon in this picture is British Railways 13 ton steel sided Medium Goods Wagon No.B458977.
