4-plank bogie Open Wagon (short wheelbase)

4-plank bogie Open Wagon (short wheelbase)

Built 1939, Fairfields, Chepstow.
SRPS Core Collection, Babcock & Wilcox blue.

This unusual steel framed wagon is designed to suit internal-user use on sharply curving track. It is believed to have been used at the Royal Ordnance Factory at Dalmuir and later transferred to Babcock & Wilcock's works at Renfrew, before being donated to SRPS. The surviving underframe evidence suggests that heavy bolsters were originally fitted, possibly for supporting gun barrels.
